COACHING

The Table Tennis Coaching Scheme is coordinated through Table Tennis Queensland and Table Tennis Australia and is managed by the Australian Sports Commission and has 5 levels accredited by the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS), through which coaches (16 years and over) can progress. Table Tennis Queensland runs the Tops and Level 1 Coaching Courses as required throughout Queensland. All of the higher level courses are run by Table Tennis Australia. 

Tops Coach – Entry Level Coaching Course

Table Tennis Australia will be offering a short 6 hour course aimed at teachers and helpers to introduce table tennis into schools called the Tops Coaching Course. This course will give participants a basic grounding in coaching table tennis games and activities. 

  • Completion of NCAS Tops Table Tennis Course (6 hour course)
  • Competency in all 3 In-Course Assessment Tools
  • Coaching Practice to be completed
  • 30 minutes supervised and documented (In-Course)

Level 1

The requirements to qualify as a Level 1 Table Tennis Coach are:

  • Completion of NCAS Level 1 Table Tennis Course (15 hour course)
  • Competency in all 5 Assessment tools
  • Coaching Practice Completed
    • 10 hours supervised coaching
    • 20 hours additional coaching

Level 2

The requirements to qualify as a Level 2 Table Tennis Coach are:

  • Qualified as a NCAS Level 1 Table Tennis Coach 
  • Completion of NCAS Level 2 Table Tennis Course (5 day course)
  • Competency in all 6 Assessment Tools
  • Coaching Practice Completed
    • 10 hours supervised coaching
    • 30 hours additional coaching

Level 3

  • Qualified as a NCAS Level 2 Table Tennis Coach 
  • Completion of NCAS Level 3 Table Tennis Course (6 hour course)
  • Complete and/or provide evidence of 5 requirements including:
    • Mentor Report
    • Self Reflection Report
    • Written evidence of implementation and review of a Periodised Plan
    • Written evidence of the effectiveness of the Periodised Plan including training plans, testimonial from players and the amount of nationally ranked players
    • Evidence of completion of 4 units from the list of optional ASC Intermediate  Coaching General Principles units below:
    • Nutrition for Sport / Anti-Doping in Sport / Sports Safety / Basic Anatomy and Biomechanics / Sports Psychology / Skill Acquisition
  • Coaching Practice Completed
    • International coaching experience with National Teams during at least 1 event
    • Development coaching at National Training Camps for a minimum of 5 days
    • Development coaching of 10 hours at National Training Centre and/or under the supervision of an approved Mentor

High Performance Coach

This is by individual selection of talented coaches and involves an individual needs analysis for each participant in the program.
