Kate impressed everyone with her play throughout the tournament, losing narrowly in five games in the Class 11 Womens final to Victoria's Cassy Geffke who claimed her eighth straight title.

Ashley’s singles title was a match in two halves with him dominating the first two games before Rory fought back brilliantly to level the scores. Ashley then regained control to lead 8-2 in the fifth game but Carroll again struck back to win the next seven points, in a reversal of what happened in their final last year. However, Ashley steadied and won the next three points for his third Australian singles title in four years.

Kate's singles final was a thriller from start to finish with neither player able to establish more than a few points lead at any time. After a slow start, Kate was unlucky to lose the first game then resisted a late surge by her opponent to take the second game. The third game was close throughout, Cassie winning it 12/10 then Kate saved two points in the fourth to force a fifth game. In the decider, Cassie's experience towards the end produced three more match points, winning the match on the second of these with a typical powerful forehand.

In the Team’s event, Ashley and Kate combined well to reach the final round undefeated but found Rory Carroll and Zvi Schweitzer too strong to lose 3-2. Ashley played superbly, winning both of his singles while Kate tried hard against much more experienced opponents.

In the Mixed Doubles, they went down in five games to Zvi and Cassie after having plenty of chances in all the games. 

As a result of her performances, Kate has been added to the Australian Paralympic Preparation Program for Table Tennis, joining Ashley who has been in the squad since its inception last year. Their next training camp in Melbourne will be in June.
